What is STEPN?

STEPN is a revolutionary Web3 lifestyle app with inbuilt Game-Fi and Social-Fi elements. These sneakers are minted and sold for a higher price in the marketplace. STEPN is built around an essential daily activity for most people – moving around. It rewards you for walking, jogging, running, and training.

It is the first project to effectively bring to life a functioning move and earn concept, finishing 4th out of 500+ projects at the Solana Ignition Hackathon 2021. On 20th January, 2022, STRPN announced their $5m Seed round, to build the world’s first move2earn running app with fun social and game elements. They aim to nudge millions into healthier lifestyles, connect them to the Web 3.0 world and contribute positively to Carbon Neutrality.

How can I earn with STEPN?

Users equip themselves with NFTs in the form of Sneakers. By walking, jogging, or running outdoors, users will earn game currency, which can either be used in-game or cashed out for profit. With Game-Fi, STEPN aims to nudge millions toward a healthier lifestyle, combat climate change and connect the public to Web 3.0, all while simultaneously hinging on its Social-Fi aspect to build a long-lasting platform fostering user-generated Web 3.0 content. How can I install STEPN app?

To start, users need to download the STEPN app

  1. Download the STEPN app Download from linktr.ee/stepnofficial.
  2. Sign-up for STEPN After getting access to the app on your respective device, you will be able to sign up for STEPN with your email address. You will receive a verification code that you need to key in to enter the app
  3. Create a new Wallet Click on the Wallet icon on the top right corner of the screen. The app will generate a 12-word secret phrase. This will be used to recover your Wallet if you uninstall the app or forget your password. Important – Note this phrase and save it somewhere safe (Write it down physically and store it somewhere only you will have access to.)
  4. Transfer SOL into your in-app Wallet Transfer SOL to in-app wallet to buy NFT Sneakers in the Marketplace and always keep some SOL as gas in your Wallet account.
  5. Purchase a Sneaker Head over to the in-app Marketplace and pick out a Sneaker! You can use the Filter tool to look for a Sneaker type of your preference. Ensure you have enough SOL for the purchase.

Congrats! You are all set. After the purchase of a Sneaker, energy will restore at a rate of 25% every 6 hours (Fixed at AEDT Time 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, 18:00) You can start your STEPN journey immediately after the first 25% energy restoration.

How to pick the right sneakers?

In the latest AMA session (26th December 2021), the STEPN team mentioned that the current energy in STEPN is oversupplied to encourage players to experience the game. They had a week of free energy where the users earned higher than usual.

In December they also announced that having Green (uncommon) sneakers will add +1 energy to the base energy. Having Blue (rare) sneakers will add +2 energy to the base energy.

EXAMPLE 1: 1 green shoe + 1 normal shoe –> 2base (+1green) = 3 energy total

EXAMPLE 2: 1 green, + 1 blue + 1 normal –> 4base (+2blue+1green) = 7 energy total

How to understand the base stats?

Should I buy a shoebox or sneakers?

There is no certainty that the shoebox what will be contained in the shoebox.

  • In the marketplace, you cant see what two sneakers were minted to create the shoebox.
  • If you mint two runners together then there are 90% chances that the third one would be a runner too, 7% chances it would be a walker (45% Chance)
  • If the shoebox minted from walker or a Jogger, shoe box would have:
    • 45% chance of walker
    • 45% chance of a jogger
    • 7% chance of a runner
    • 3% chance of a trainer

How often does the energy level of the sneakers refill on STEPN?

Your energy replenishes after every 6 hours for 25% of your total energy. The more sneakers the more energy you will have. You will also get more energy refills you will have.

Is there any bonus for buying more than sneakers?

  • You get a bonus for holding 3 to 8 sneakers/joggers
  • You get 4 energy with 3 commons.
  • If you have an uncommon sneaker then you will get +1 energy.
  • If you sell your sneaker then you will not get the 3 bonus, you will lose the energy that came with the 3 bonus.

Each energy gives you 10 minutes of earning time.

Is GST earning static in StepN?

Users’ base GST return is not static, and several factors may cause it to fluctuate:

  1. Sneaker Durability – Your sneaker needs to be fixes otherwise it earns less if it has less than 50 durability.
  2. GPS signal – users will earn less if GPS signal is poor.
  3. Mobile Data signal strength and stability – if data signal is choppy, it could also reduce earnings.
  4. Randomization.

When do I get paid in GST/GMT?

GST/GMT will be paid out for every minute of movement, which is dependent on 4 main factors:

Can we change the sneaker’s attributes points?

Users will be able to burn GST/GMT to reset the Sneaker’s Attribute points. The more frequent the reset, the more expensive it will be, with the cost capping at a certain level (Under Development).

Which Sneakers are the highest paying in the game?

Runners and trainers are the highest paying in the game.

Do sneakers sold on auction have energy?

If you buy sneakers from an auction you will have no energy for 24 hours.

Which tokens are used in StepN?

There are two tokens used in StepN. Game Tokens are called GST and the Governance Tokens are called GMT. You need to burn GSTs to increase the level of your sneakers. Higher levels unlock several benefits, covered in greater detail below.

How can I earn GST and GMT?

The higher the efficiency, the more GST earned per minute. Users can ONLY earn GST from Level 0 to Level 29. At Level 30, users can choose to stay earning GST or switch to earning GMT. Users can switch between these two earning modes freely.

Does the Sneaker’s Efficiency Attribute affect your earnings?

In Solo Mode, Efficiency plays a part in GST earnings. Having a higher Efficiency Attribute will result in better GST earnings per Energy spent. In Marathon Mode, higher Efficiency leads to a faster accumulation of Leaderboard points.

Does the resilience (Durability/Repair) affect your earnings?

In Solo Mode, Resilience affects repair costs and the decay rate of Durability. Higher Resilience will result in lower repair costs and a slower Durability decay. Repair costs per Durability point increase at certain level milestones Durability is a Sneaker’s “stamina” bar. As a user moves, Durability will decrease. Sneakers receive a “worn-out” penalty at 2 Durability touchpoints:

  1. At 50/100 Durability, Sneaker Efficiency drops to 90%
  2. At 20/100 Durability, Sneaker Efficiency drops to 10%

In Marathon Mode, resilience will allow users to earn more points as their Sneaker will stay above the “worn-out” penalty mark longer.

How does the type of sneakers affect your earnings?

Your earnings will depend on the attributes of the sneaker, mainly the efficiency score. Base GST returns for each Sneaker differ. There are four Sneaker types. Each designed to suit a different exercise intensity and/or fitness level:

Does the Sneaker’s Comfort Attribute affect your earning on StepN?

The higher the comfort, the more GMT earned per minute. Users will have the option to choose between GST and GMT earning at Level 30. Users can switch between these two earning modes freely. For GMT releasing detail, refer to the Tokenomic section.

Does the Speed of Movement affect your earnings?

To maximize earnings, users should keep within the optimal speed range of their respective Sneaker. Whenever a user falls below or above this range, their earnings will be reduced up to 90% depending on the speed discrepancy from the optimal range. Once Energy is depleted, users will stop earning. They can either choose to carry on tracking their movement or manually exit Solo Mode by briefly holding down the Stop button.

How many attributes can each quality of the sneaker have?

There are five Sneaker qualities. When a Sneaker is minted, the value of each Attribute will be chosen at random within the min. and max. values according to Sneaker quality. As such, even Sneakers of the same quality may have vastly different Attribute distributions.

How can I level up my Sneakers?

Users can level up their Sneakers by burning GST. Each level-up takes a fixed time to complete, which increases along with the amount of GST required according to the Sneaker level. This process can be sped up by using even more GST. Additionally, GMT will also be required to level a Sneaker to Level 29 and 30. Upon level-up, users will attain 4 – 12 additional Attribute points to assign according to their Sneaker quality.

At the max level, the user needs to choose between earning GST or GMT. Switching between GST/GMT earning is allowed, but will be subject to a cooldown duration.

Will I stop earning when I run out of energy?

Once you run out of Energy, users stop earning tokens. They can either choose to carry on tracking their movements or manually exit Solo Mode by briefly holding down the Stop button.

What is a Mystery Box?

Mystery Box is a loot box that is randomly dropped while you are moving in Solo Mode. It can contain GST, Gems (Level 1 – 2), NFT Sneakers (Common, Uncommon), or nothing at all. If users reach their Daily GST Cap, GST will not be obtained from the Mystery Box. Each user has 4 Mystery Box slots. Mystery Box has the same 5 quality types as Sneakers. Upon receiving a Mystery Box, users will need to press Unlock to start a countdown. Once the countdown ends, they will be able to open it. Mystery Box countdown duration increases proportionately to its quality.

Can I rent a sneaker instead of buying it?

You can rent a sneaker on StepN if you do not want to own one. However, the shoe owner will bear the repair, upgrades, and level-up cost and earn 70% of the GSTs, while the renter will get 30% of the GSTs earned.

The team is still working on the profit split. This may change in the future. The renting feature will be rolled out by the end of February 2022.
