It seems nobody is beyond the ever-growing reach of hackers, even executives at major brands. This week, RTFKT COO, Nikhil Gopalani, shared that he has become the unfortunate victim of an unscrupulous NFT heist.

Gopalani heads up operations at the leading NFT fashion studio RTFKT, which Nike acquired way back in December 2021. With his impressive credentials, he is obviously well-versed in tech, however, that didn’t stop the cowardly hackers from targeting his asset laden crypto wallet.

What Did Gopalani Lose in the Attack?

Despite the heart-breaking nature of the hack, Gopalani bravely decided to share the the news via his Twitter account:

Following the NFT heist, wallet movements indicate that Gopalani lost a huge selection of NFTs linked to the RTFKT brand. This includes 19 assets from the coveted Clone X collection, 11 Crypto Kicks and 18 RTFKT Space Pods, among others. In total, the theft involved approximately 84 NFTs worth a lowball valuation of $173k.

Regarding the unfortunate event, Samuel Cardillo, RTFKT CTO stated in a Tweet response:

“For legal purposes, we won’t be able to go in deeper details until further notice…”

Cardillo goes further to advise collectors to never disclose password information to anyone claiming to represent companies like Microsoft or Apple. Therefore, it is speculated that this is how the hackers gained access to  Gopalani’s wallet. As a result, the ordeal represents an unfortunate loss for Gopalani, and a serious security reminder for us all.
