The Six Figure Stealing

Yesterday, September 2nd, @NFTHerder reported in detail through a Twitter thread that a hacker stole around $175,000 worth of ETH from Hollywood actor, Bill Murray’s wallet following his charity NFT auction titled ‘Bill Murray 1000’.

The hack actually happened on Thursday, when the hacker drained 94% of the funds in Murray’s wallet at roughly 7 PM ET, as per Etherscan, and details released by the actor’s team. Beyond this, there was also an attempt to steal some of the NFTs that Murray personally owns.

Thankfully, a wallet security team protected him from the very worst-case scenario. They did this by moving his valuable NFTs, which include Damien Hirst, Cryptopunks, Pudgy Penguins, Cool Cats and Flower Girls, to a pair of safehouse wallets, drastically reducing the chance of further robbery. Also, they attempted to steal 800 NFTs from the collection he launched.

The actor’s team has already filed a police report and is working with Chainalysis, the crypto analytics firm, to hopefully identify the hacker, and bring them to justice.

According to CoinDesk, in response to this hack, the auction’s runner-up, Mishap72, donated 120 ETH to the Coinbase of Chive Charities in order to replace what was lost.

The Bill Murray NFT Collection

This Thursday, Bill Murray released a collection titled ‘The Bill Murray 1000’, which offers 100 story NFTs surrounding the comedian/actor. The NFTs cover a broad range of topics ranging from how Hunter S. Thompson saved Bill’s life to the day he met future President, John F. Kennedy.

Bill and his son worked closely with the collection’s writer, John Resig to add context to his best stories. Whilst doing this, they reviewed, edited and approved each story.

Each of the 100 story NFTs features a unique design inspired by the story. Each original story/design combination is available in nine additional colorways.

The NFTs, which were initially released on Coinbase, also provide exclusive access to holders to an exclusive club that provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences with “the man, the myth, the legend.”
