Today, Billboard took a step further into the NFT ecosystem by announcing a new partnership with the popular NFT avatar collection World of Women (WoW). For the partnership, WoW creator Yam Karkai will help the music industry giant commemorate the 2022 Billboard Women in Music event and summit.

In celebration of some of the most legendary female performers of all time, Karkai will create one-of-a-kind Billboard magazine covers, making likenesses of Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and Mariah Carey. The corresponding NFTs will then be sold at auction via the FTX NFT marketplace. If the sales volume of WoW is a good indicator, it’s reasonable to assume that the artwork will fetch a good price.

As one of the top female-led NFT projects, WoW has been turning heads since its July 2021 launch. Recently, Guy Oseary added WoW as a client for representation. If you aren’t aware, Oseary also manages Madonna, U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Bored Ape Yacht Club. To date, the WoW collection has generated around 55,000 ETH (over $155 million) in sales volume, placing it in the top 15 most traded PFP NFT collections of all time on OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with World of Women and Yam Karkai for this monumental first for Billboard,” Julian Holguin, President of Billboard, said in a statement. ”The cultural significance of this partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment of championing women who are breaking down barriers and shaping culture within music and beyond,” he added.

A portion of the proceeds from the NFT magazine cover auction will benefit non-profit organizations chosen by each of the three featured celebrities. Christina Aguilera’s cover will benefit National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Madonna will donate proceeds to City of Joy, and Mariah Carey will donate hers to Camp Mariah’s Fresh Air Fund.

The people who purchase Billboard’s NFTs will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Billboard’s 2023 Women in Music event in Los Angeles, walk the red carpet, and meet Karkai.

“On behalf of the founding World of Women team, it is an absolute honor and dream-come-true to participate in such a landmark moment with an incredibly inspirational, diverse, and influential group of women,” Karkai said in a statement. “Billboard’s Women in Music show is a one-of-a-kind event, and there is no better platform to help our community grow and our voices be heard.”
