On March 21, MetaMask parent company ConsenSys announced a new integration with fintech platform MoonPay, allowing users in Nigeria to buy cryptocurrencies via instant bank transfers. The new feature is available in the MetaMask mobile app and the Portfolio DApp, which greatly simplifies the process of buying cryptocurrency without using credit or debit cards.

According to MetaMask Product Manager Lorenzo SANTOS, prior to the partnership, MetaMask users in Nigeria had access to a MetaMask wallet, but the process of buying cryptocurrency was costly and time-consuming. With a new integration that supports local bank transfers, buying crypto on MetaMask is now faster and cheaper, allowing users to access crypto without sending assets from a centralized exchange.

Despite Nigeria’s current crypto issues, Santos said the country has become a major market for MetaMask, ranking third in terms of monthly active mobile users. Nigeria is in the top ten countries for the number of visitors to metamask.io in the last month.
